All That Goodbye to All That

Every writer who leaves NYC has written about leaving NYC since Joan Didion famously wrote “Goodbye to All That” in her seminal essay collection Slouching Towards Bethlehem. It was only a matter of time until I did it too.

The last picture I took of NYC. My friend I moved to NYC with, Mary, and I returned to Brooklyn Bridge Park to say goodbye to the first spot we visited three years earlier.

When you want to see them, the signs are everywhere. I spent three years looking for a sign that I should leave NYC, and I found it in author Tom Robbins. So here it is, the full story, more or less. A big thanks to literary all-star website The Millions for giving me a platform to talk about grit, Robbins, and moving on.
